Thursday Dinner Ride

Came home from work early on Thursday and since Missus was not cooking, we rode out for our dinner at a Japanese restaurant a town away.

image

The staff there allowed us to park our Bs inside the restaurant. Am seeing more restaurants and eateries allowing folded bikes into their premises.

Possible Drastic Reduction of Back Pain?

Missus has been experiencing very bad back pains in recent months while riding. Thinking that it could be the saddles, it was changed from B17 to B67. She loved the B67, but it still gave her the pains. When a pal advertised that his Selle Anatomica saddle for sale, and having heard so much about comfort on this saddle, I grabbed it and installed it on the Missus’ B.

In matching colours to Missus’ B.

image

Brought it out for a very short ride to assess how the saddle fairs for her. Too short a distance to tell.

With me having returned from Shanghai from a working trip 2 weeks ago, I dropped off our Bs at the distributor for a long overdue full servicing plus some upgrades for the Missus’ B. One of these upgrades was to swap out the Tannus tyres on hers to Schwalbe Marathon tyres. We concluded that it could be the tyres being too hard and not offering much absorption for her.

Back from the distributor.

Out and about that very weekend for a ride, after having breakfast.

image

Considering that we rode close to 20km and Missus not feeling much sharp pains, except for occassional aches, I am happy to say that the swap of tyres have helped greatly.

One last thing for this post. The times when she was on Tannus tyres have trained her stamina and fitness greatly. So much so that she was zooming off on the new tyres.

Missus First Ride of 2014……and After 6 Weeks

Missus had not been well 3 weeks prior to our trip to South Korea for 3 weeks. So in all, she had not been cycling for 6 weeks. So time to get some distance on her Dr Seuss.

image

Cycled to another town for breakfast, a good 8.5km away. Had some Burger King and off we went on our return home.

image

Some posing before heading off.

image

Along the way home, we detoured to visit a hot spring which was near our home. A place which we have never visited although Missus and I have been living in this area for more than a decade and a half.

image

Found a toad who was admiring Citrus.

image

Information about this hot spring.

Going to revisit this gorgeous place some time soon.

Ride for Breakfast

Woke up real early to complete this ride before the Sun became too sorching hot for Missus to continue. And since we are at it, might as well head for breakfast.

image

Panoramic view of the neighbourhood. Soon, that piece of open land will make way for other developments.

image

Made our way slowly amd steadily for our breakfast of coffee, tea and pan fried Indian dough with curry called roti prata. Had a filling breakfast and we were on our way home.

image

Just a day earlier, I purchased a new water bottle. For this ride, I tested some of the recommendations given by fellow Brompton riders to secure the bottle using the velcro strap. It worked and did not come loose at all.

Bombardier. I like that name.

Endurance Ride from Town to Town

The day after installing the 54T and new front light mounting, I brought Citrus out for an endurance ride with the Missus. This ride will take us from our town to a neighbouring town via a newly constructed path.

image

Halfway through the journey, the path split into two and we took the one which led us to this dead end.

image

Took a selfie with the Missus while rehydrating. Once we rehydrated, we u-turned and took the other path.

image

Along the way, we saw tgese beautiful lallangs by the side of the path. Couldn’t resist posing our Bs next to these lallangs for an image.

As we had started late, the heat from the Sun became too scorching. We headed home after riding midway between both towns.

image

Upon reaching home, I realised that one of the bottles had dropped off the bottle cage. And it was the new one. Sigh. Looks like a purchase of another bottle is inevitable. Did some research and found that the design of the cages and bottles are crucial. In my case, the bottle did not have the necessary grooves for the cage to clamp onto.

Bearing that in mind, the hunt for another bottle became easier.

Gorgeous Sunday Ride

Started off pretty late for today’s ride. Left home for the starting point at about 7am. By the time we reached the starting point, the Sun would already be blazing in the sky.

image

Halfway through the ride, we reached this bridge where we saw this scene. Nowadays,  very seldom we can find a river or a stream with lots of greenery on both banks.

We headed for breakfast soon after and after breakfast, continued on the planned route.

image
At this juncture, we are on the final stretch of the route. The road in this image actually connects the main island to another island, called Coney Island. It was only built in recent years during the development of the area on the main island.

image
This is where the adventure for today ends. Any further, everyone we know will read about us in the next day’s newspapers.

Beyond these gates lies Coney Island. Before this entire area was developed and the road built, we would only be able to access Coney Island via kayaks and canoes from a jetty where we started today’s adventure. Now, everyone is simply waiting for the completion of the development of Coney Island, which is actually part of a masterplan to develop this area into an eco-town, capable of providing housing and recreation all within a town.

image
Before heading back to the starting point, I simply cannot resist taking a couple more images of our Bs with the gorgeous blue sky.

image
Final image to end this morning’s adventure.

Fifth Adventure in Five Days

On Sunday, Missus and I went for our fifth adventure in five days. As we did not explore the park in its entirety the previous day, this adventure would be to cycle all the way to the end of the park while exploring the various parts of the park.

image

We knew we had to start cycling towards the park before the sun rose. So we set off for the start point at 6.25am. This time round, we settled on dates, Goober grape sandwiches, tea, black coffee and plain water for breakfast. Not much preparations needed, yet it will provide the energy and hydration needed for this more than 10km ride.

image

After cycling for close to 35 minutes, we reached the end of the park. Time for breakfast.

The sky was getting darker as we were having our breakfast. Never did it occur to me that it will turn out to be a rather wet ride for us. Hurriedly, we finished our sandwiches, took a few sips of hot drinks and returned to where we started.

Thank God we did not meet any heavy rain along the way back. There was a slight drizzle and the roads were wet with puddles of rainwater.

image

Made it back to the starting point relatively wet. Not for our Bromptons though, which went through a lot of puddles of water on the road.

image

In the evening, after a nice hot shower, I took apart Missus’ B for a good clean and degrease. Her B has undergone more than 100km without every being taken apart for degreasing. So out came the tools to dismantle the B and fluids to degrease and lubricate the various parts.

image

The sprockets before and after degreasing.

image

Too tired to remove the links on the chain.  So this is the next best way to degrease the chain thoroughly. Clean and shiny now.

With both Bs washed and cleaned, and five riding adventures in five days, it was time to hit the sack. Work week going to start all over again and it will be a break of few days before riding again.
