Potentially the Longest Ride

I have always wanted to ride from the eastern end to the southern tip of the island, which spans around 21km one way. Finally after many months,  I had the opportunity to do so.

Not too many images from this ride as we were unsure of the route and were busy making detours after detours.

image

Finally reached Gardens By The Bay East, the eastern part of the gardens. Posed by the river leading out to the sea, with our target end point in the background too. The haze has not disappeared totally, as we can see in the background, and on this day, the PSI reading was between 70 to 80. No biggie.

Was turned away shortly after this image was taken as there was a family day happening further ahead and the crowd was swelling by the seconds. Told ourselves we will be back to complete the whole route again.

image

On the way back to the starting point, Missus saw the potential of an image and got us both stopped to take this.

Till the next time we are here.

Muc-Off Dry Shower

Planned to cycle to work this week as it is a week packed with meetings in the office.

image

Bought this last week when I collected our Bromptons as I knew it will come in handy at my workplace. Used this today to freshen up upon reaching workplace.

It is foamy and upon application onto the skin, it is immediately absorbed by the skin. At first, it gives off a buttery aroma. Once it is dried, the buttery aroma fades away.

Most importantly, it keeps me fresh, as though I have just had my shower, and there is no feeling of sweat and stickiness on me at all.

An Early Morning Exploration

My wife and I woke up very early yesterday to make the most out of the morning to explore a scenic route that stretches 30-odd km to and fro.

image

Upon arrival, this scene greeted us. And moments later, it poured. No way we can ride if it’s pouring. So we headed for breakfast.

By afternoon, the sky had cleared and because we had already moved away from the initial route, we went to explore the estate which we will be moving to soon.

image

Our Bromptons with the upgraded Jagwire cables and Tannus puncture-proof tyres.

image

Since we are already on Tannus, my wife decided to test if these tyres live up to its reputation. Well, it did. On this red-graveled path, more effort is needed to cycle. Ride is firmer too as the polymer used to make Tannus is less bouncy than rubber tyres.

Once we rejoined the tarmac, it was a fantastic cycling experience. Our Bromptons feel as if it is gliding along the road. It is also considerably less bouncy. No doubt more effort is needed to cycle due to higher rolling resistance, but once it got rolling, it was wonderful.

Before we headed back due to the need for our presence urgently, I took two shots of our Bromptons up close.

image

My wife’s Brompton, named Dr Seuss. The colour combo was what inspired her with the name.

image

My Brompton. Wife named it Mr Citrus,  after the colours of a lemon, lime and an orange.

So now, with our Bromptons back and almost fully modded, I am definitely looking forward to more explorations and adventures on them.

An Interesting Discovery

Last Saturday, I went to recce a new route which one of my friends had gone on. I knew the route will loop back to my place. So off I went.

image

At the beginning of this new route, I realised that even though it was next to a busy highway, it was surprisingly quiet from where this image was taken.

image

Was quite glad that it was  straight up to a point where I met my nemesis, up slopes. 4 to be exact.

image

By the time I reached this point,  I was faced with the 4th and steepest slope.

Once I cleared this slope, it was downhill all the way. And what an exhilarating downhill ride it was. Achieved speeds of up to 40km/h.

Once I rejoined the main road, it was road cycling all the way.

image

Along the way, stopped by here for an image opportunity. The clouds were gorgeous on this day.

image

Along the way back, stopped by a small eatery for a cup of lemon lime to quench the thirst and hide from the scorching sun for a while. Little did I know that the storm clouds were coming in.

image

Managed to reach a shelter before the downpour started. It was so heavy that the windows were pelted relentlessly by the rain.

Nonetheless, it was an interesting ride out that afternoon, with lots of new discovery.

After a Long Break

After taking a long break from cycling due to a bout of viral flu, I picked up my Brompton and headed out for a slow ride around the neigbourhood. Boy was I glad I made this trip.

image

What greeted me by the seaside. Absolutely gorgeous sunrise on a beautiful Sunday.

image

Posing on the pavement before I headed towards the nearby eatery for breakfast.

image

How useful is the Ortlieb Mini-O? Extremely useful. It held 3 packets of noodles and 1 packet of coffee. Essentials are all in a small zipper pouch inside the Mini-O.

image

On the same afternoon, being a glorious Sunday, Missus and I headed out to a nearby town to complete our exploration. We were pleasantly surprised to find this red-graveled path that stretches for 2.4km. And the surroundings were simply gorgeous.

We headed home after completing close to 16km of our exploration. It was a fantastic Sunday to begin and end with cycling.

Into the Storm

Came home early on one of the rare workdays. Picked up the Bromptons and headed out for a ride.

image

Halfway into the ride, saw this scene in front of us. Missus and I decided to continue to continue.

image

I was pleasantly glad that we pressed on. The storm clouds were still there but we managed to sneak in a shot.

Headed home immediately and boy, we were amazed at the speeds we reached that day. Just to ensure that we will not be caught in the storm.

Cycling to Work on a Brompton

Had the chance to cycle to work on one of the weekends. Total distance to and fro is 15+ km. Great way to exercise, arrived at my office, zero carbon output. Killing 3 birds with 1 stone.

image

Stopped by a local coffeehouse for some breakfast amd beverage.

image

How the folded Brompton fits under my table in my temporary office. Perfectly fitted.

image

On the way home, stopped by for an outdoor shot.

Missus’ First Night Ride

Missus’ went for her first night ride. Stopped by a jetty near our place and decided to take some shots of our Bromptons and see how the images turn out.

image

With flash and all lights on the Bromptons switched on. The reflective strips on the tyres added to the final effect. Thought it was rather Tron-like too.

Two Families on a Cycling Trip

Planned this trip with a good friend, knowing that she and her husband had bought new foldies too. The planned route would be one which is flat throughout and relatively free of any road cycling,  as their 7-year old daughter was coming along.

image

Magnificent sunrise on our way to meet up.

image

All ready to ride, and excited too.

image

The moment I saw this scene, I knew I had to get a shot of it with our Bromptons. The scene gave us a sense of cycling overseas during autumm.

image

Got our friend to join in the shot. Husband and daughter were already way ahead of us.

image

Now, all 4 foldies basking under the sun.

It was a slow pace cycle and we called it a day slightly after 10 as they have another function to attend to in the afternoon.

Hope to do more of such cycling trips in future.

Neighbouring Town Exploration

We rode into a neighbouring town, trying to find out how the park connectors from our town link to another town.

Park connectors are a series of interconnecting paths linking to the various parks located all over the country.

image

Found a vast piece of open land to let the Bromptons soak in the sun.

image

Traditional breakfast, eggs and toast.

image

Stopped by a local mall on the way home to pick up some toiletries. This image shows one of the reason why we picked Brompton, compactness after folding so that it can be wheeled around easily and not obstruct the way.
